2011 Cambrian Shiraz $35
The Cambrian Shiraz was grown in the red soil north of Heathcote. Hand-picked and open fermented; this Shiraz was aged in new and old French oak for 18 months.
Classic Heathcote Shiraz, this is a real shiraz lovers wine without the over ripe and soupy fruit that has become the norm in some of our other warmer shiraz regions. The nose displays a deep concentration of black cherry, dark plum, violets and liquorice. In the mouth the concentration continues with layers of ripe fruit and sweet baking spice. The tannins are settling in, creating a velvety texture with the acidity bringing some lovely freshness. There is a great balance of power and finesse here.
2005 Heathcote Old Vine Shiraz $55 (6 bottle limit)
The Vines for the Old Vine Shiraz were planted more than 65 years ago in the flood plains east of the Heathcote township. The grapes were hand-picked from these dry-grown vines, open fermented and aged in new French oak for 18 months.
A rich Shiraz with well constructed, balanced tannins.
Luscious cherries infused with vanilla beans and aniseed, sprinkled with
cinnamon with a hint of mushroom. It begins with liquorice rolling over the
palate with black cherries and cloves, followed by delicious prunes, toffee
across the back, and a long savoury finish. This wine truly reveals the
benefits of premium oak and old vines.
