Moortangi Estate aims to produce distinctive and elegant premium wine. We believe that wine should reflect both vintage and terroir, and we strive for continued improvement in our winemaking to showcase the quality of the fruit we use.
2011 Yarra Valley Syrah $25
The Yarra Valley Syrah was made from low-yielding vines. Handpicked and naturally fermented in large wooden vats and aged for 20 months in new and old French oak.
Elegant and spicy style with a whole bunch element aiding the structure and adding complexity. Wild raspberry, sour cherry and brambly fruit intertwine with hints of cracked pepper, star anise and cinnamon. The cool vintage is evident in the acidity, but this is by no means an austere wine, instead the acidity brings freshness and energy cradling the fruit across the palate. This is an impressive wine from a difficult year.
2011 Cambrian Shiraz $35
The Cambrian Shiraz was grown in the red soil north of Heathcote. Hand-picked and open fermented; this Shiraz was aged in new and old French oak for 18 months.
Classic Heathcote Shiraz, this is a real shiraz lovers wine without the over ripe and soupy fruit that has become the norm in some of our other warmer shiraz regions. The nose displays a deep concentration of black cherry, dark plum, violets and liquorice. In the mouth the concentration continues with layers of ripe fruit and sweet baking spice. The tannins are settling in, creating a velvety texture with the acidity bringing some lovely freshness. There is a great balance of power and finesse here.
